Speaking during an event in Elwak, Hon. Kore expressed gratitude to the National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) for their unwavering support in empowering individuals living with disabilities.During the event, 47 persons with disabilities received tricycles, 11 were provided with blind sticks, and several others received crutches. These essential mobility aids will significantly enhance their independence and quality of life. Hon. Kore also announced the launch of a comprehensive program aimed at registering all persons with disabilities in Mandera South Constituency with the NCPWD.     Thanksgiving Prayer Service in Shamata, Nyandarua, was abruptly interrupted by a shocking act of police aggression on [date], as a uniformed police Inspector handed a teargas canister to an officer in plain clothes, who then threw it into the VIP tent, sparking panic among attendees.
The service, which was initially peaceful and calm, saw the unprovoked attack unfold in front of hundreds of mourners, despite the presence of police officers purportedly deployed for security. The act of violence left many in the crowd terrified, yet the prayers continued, thanks to the remarkable courage of the community.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua condemned the incident, accusing the National Police Service of engaging in illegal and politically motivated actions. In a statement, Gachagua expressed his disappointment, highlighting that this was another example of police misuse in a pattern of recent violence, including extrajudicial killings and abductions.
“I want to acknowledge the bravery of those who ensured the prayers continued despite this attack,” Gachagua said. “It is deeply shameful that the police, who are meant to protect the people, are instead being used as tools for political intimidation.”
Local residents of Shamata played a crucial role in protecting the service attendees, ensuring the safety of women and children, and escorting the attackers out of the event. Their actions were praised by Gachagua, who commended the community for taking charge in the face of police violence.
The incident has raised alarm over the growing politicization of the National Police Service, with many questioning the motives behind such attacks. Gachagua called on President William Ruto to ensure that no amount of intimidation would deter Kenyans from demanding accountability, good governance, and respect for democracy.

Horticultural farmers in Elgeyo Marakwet County are set to benefit from a state-of-the-art pack house that aims to address long-standing challenges in produce handling and marketing. The facility, located at Kombabelio in Kapchemutwa Ward, was officially inaugurated in a ceremony attended by local leaders and stakeholders.
The pack house, constructed in partnership with Farm Africa, a leading charity supporting smallholder farmers, is a 15-tonne capacity facility designed to help farmers increase packaging efficiency and improve the marketability of their produce. It features a cold room and a Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) center, ensuring that the produce meets international standards.
For years, farmers in the region, particularly those growing snowpeas, sugar snaps, and French beans, have faced difficulties in reaching local and international markets due to poor handling, storage, and transportation conditions. The new pack house will eliminate the need for farmers to wait for refrigerated lorries to collect their crops, reducing post-harvest losses and enabling timely transportation to markets.
During the event, Farm Africa’s Country Programmes Manager, Mr. George Ochuodo, expressed optimism about the impact of the pack house on local farming communities. “This facility will empower smallholder farmers, improve the quality of their produce, and open doors to larger, more lucrative markets,” Ochuodo said.
Also present at the inauguration were County Commissioner John Korir, Kapchemutwa Ward MCA Steve Cheruiyot, Kenya Horticultural Exporters’ representative Dickson Kimathi, and various county officials including CECs Edwin Kibor and Thomas Maiyo, COs Elizabeth Korir and Edwin Komen, and staff from the Agriculture Department.

 Nurses in Uasin Gishu County have gone on strike, citing the county government’s refusal to engage in discussions for a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). The strike, which began on December 23, 2024, has now entered its fifth day, paralyzing healthcare services across the region.
The Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) Secretary for Uasin Gishu County, Klein Kimutai, expressed frustration with the county administration, accusing it of neglecting the concerns of nurses despite several attempts to resolve issues through dialogue. According to Kimutai, the Ministry of Labour has intervened, inviting both the county government and the union for negotiations, but the county has indicated that it will not be available for discussions until December 7, 2025. As a result, the strike will continue indefinitely until the issues are addressed.
“The nurses are not happy with the county government’s refusal to address our concerns, particularly concerning promotions. Many of us have been stagnated in our positions for years, while new recruits are being placed in higher job groups. Some of us have been serving for over ten years, with only one promotion during the Kenyatta administration. This is not acceptable,” Kimutai said.
The nurses are also demanding that the county government honor its commitment to promotions. There were funds allocated for promotion, but union representatives allege that some individuals are attempting to misappropriate the money. Additionally, they are calling for the employment of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) staff, who have been on contract since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, to be confirmed on permanent and pensionable terms. The nurses argue that without permanent employment, UHC staff face career stagnation, which they believe hampers their professional development and the quality of healthcare services.
Sharon Jepchirchir, a UHC staff member, shared her personal struggle, stating that many of her colleagues are facing depression due to the lack of job security. “We have been working for five years under contract, and yet we are still not confirmed as permanent employees. It is a very frustrating situation, and some of us are overworked and underpaid. We deserve better,” Jepchirchir said, adding that a budget of just 4 billion shillings is needed to absorb the UHC staff into permanent and pensionable positions.
Another UHC worker, Koech Kiprop, who was employed in 2020, also spoke out about the dire situation. “We have suffered a lot. We were employed in 2020, but our conditions have not improved. We will not return to work until the governor confirms our permanent status,” Kiprop said.
The strike has led to the complete paralysis of healthcare services in Uasin Gishu, with hospitals and health centers unable to provide essential care. The nurses have made it clear that they will not return to work until their demands for fair promotions, permanent employment, and salary adjustments are met.
The nurses’ call for action has been echoed by union representatives, who insist that the county government must address the issues promptly to avoid further disruption of healthcare services. “We are asking Governor Jonathan Bii to prioritize our concerns. We want our jobs to be secure, and we want to be treated fairly. This is not just about money; it’s about our dignity as healthcare workers,” Kimutai concluded.
As the strike continues, the county government will have to decide how to address the concerns of the nurses and restore healthcare services to Uasin Gishu County.  Read More
