Chief Justice Maraga finally retired on Monday 11th and handed powers to Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu on an interim capacity.
The CJ seems to have been waiting for that moment dearly and moments after handing over, he headed home and joined his family.

Maraga who is also celebrating his 70th birthday took time to share photos of him in a celebration mode as he turns on new chapter in his life.
“Celebrating my 70th birthday with family” Maraga stated.
“Today is my last day in office. I thank the Almighty God for fighting my battles and guiding me to this moment. Thank you Kenyans for the opportunity to serve. God bless Kenya.” Maraga stated.
Maraga urged magistrates and judges not to let the people of Kenya down.
CJ Maraga retires after serving 18 years in the Judiciary. His tenure as Chief Justice was characterised by friction with the Executive. Maraga’s bench nullified President Uhuru’s re-election in 2017. Maraga had also advised the president to dissolve Parliament
Maraga goes down the history as the first judge to overturn a presidential election. On his ruling on the 2017 general election, Maraga stated that the election was not incredible and termed it as null and void.
