KNEC Launches Training for KJSEA Examiners Ahead of October Assessments

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has officially announced the training of examiners for the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA), set to take place between July and August 2025.

This initiative marks a significant step in strengthening the assessment process under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), as KNEC gears up for the upcoming national examinations.

According to the official notice, the training will be conducted in two phases: an online segment followed by a residential session. Shortlisted candidates will be guided on how to access training materials online, and the location of the in-person training will be communicated to them at a later stage. The training is open only to applicants who have been shortlisted, and they will be notified via SMS and the KNEC application portal.

The training fee is set at Kenya Shillings 10,500 and is to be paid strictly by the shortlisted candidates. This fee covers training resources and logistical arrangements for both the virtual and physical sessions. KNEC emphasizes that no payments should be made unless an official invitation is received.

Interested applicants must meet specific criteria, including being a qualified teacher or tutor in a junior secondary school or teacher training institution, having at least three years of teaching experience, and holding a diploma in education or higher. In addition, applicants must be aged 50 years or below, and must not be under any disciplinary action. Candidates must also be registered with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) or Public Service Commission (PSC), and recommended by their head of institution.

Qualified participants will be trained on marking schemes, ethical standards, and evaluation techniques aligned with the CBC framework. Upon successful completion, they will be engaged to mark KJSEA papers based on their areas of expertise and the needs of the assessment process.
