The National Assembly’s Finance Committee has shot down a proposed amendment in the Finance Bill 2025 that sought to revise the Pay As You Earn (PAYE) tax bands to ease the financial strain on low and middle-income earners. The proposal had recommended expanding the current PAYE brackets to 10%, 17.5%, 25%, 27.5%, and 30%. It also sought to empower the Treasury Cabinet Secretary to adjust these tax bands by up to 10% every three years to account for inflation.
