Suspected Transformer Thieves Arrested in Eldoret

In a major breakthrough, police in Eldoret have arrested a group of suspected transformer thieves who have been wreaking havoc across Uasin Gishu, EMC, and Nandi counties. The suspects, who hail from Kaptagat, Kapsabet, and Moisbridge, were nabbed on Friday following a tip-off from vigilant locals.
The suspects, believed to be behind the recent spate of transformer vandalism in the region, allegedly dismantle transformers and sell the valuable components to businesswomen in Eldoret City. Each stolen transformer is sold for KSh 200,000, a sum that has raised serious concerns about the widespread network of theft in the area.
During the operation, one of the businesswomen involved in purchasing the stolen transformers was apprehended by police, while another remains under investigation. The authorities have confirmed that these businesswomen were complicit in the theft ring, aiding in the sale of the dismantled transformers.
Authorities believe the group is responsible for a significant number of transformer thefts that have disrupted power supply across several counties. The thefts have caused power outages and significant losses to electricity service providers, while also affecting local communities who rely on a steady supply of electricity for their daily activities.
“The suspects are believed to be the masterminds behind the ongoing transformer vandalism in the region,” said a police spokesperson. “Their arrests are a major step forward in tackling this criminal activity, and we are continuing to investigate further to dismantle their entire network.”
The suspects are currently being held at Eldoret Central Police Station while investigations continue. Police are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to transformer thefts or vandalism in their areas.
The arrest of the suspects marks a crucial development in the ongoing fight against infrastructure vandalism, which has been a major concern for both local authorities and electricity service providers.
As investigations unfold, police have vowed to continue cracking down on individuals and groups involved in such criminal activities that endanger public safety and cause extensive damage to essential services.  Read More
