Turkana South MP John Namoit Ariko, alongside eight co-accused, will spend the weekend in custody as they await a decision on their bond and bail applications. The group, which includes former MCA Peter Lokutuni, bloggers Davis Loyopo and Jamostar Silale, local politician Bonfestars Ekala, senior pastor Joseph Elikipan, law enforcement officer Peter Kodet, manager Sammy Esinyen (alias Whensonko), and former MCA James Esinyen, is facing serious charges in an Eldoret court.
The accusations against them include the assault of 16-year-old Nimrod Ekamais Lomurukai, the son of Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai, as well as conspiracy to defeat justice, possession of stolen property, and forgery. The alleged attack, which took place on April 29, 2024, has become a flashpoint of local political tensions, forcing the case to be transferred to Eldoret for safety reasons.
The accused have denied the charges, but the prosecutor, Mark Mugun, argued for their detention over security concerns. In response, their lawyers have expressed frustration over the case being moved out of their local jurisdiction, claiming that the accused are being unfairly treated. The defense has also highlighted the tense political climate in Lodwar, where some of the accused have large followings, which could potentially disrupt court proceedings.
Despite the political drama surrounding the case, there remains hope that justice will prevail, and the accused will have a fair opportunity to present their side in court. The decision on their bond will be made on Monday, as the nation watches closely for developments.  Read More

   In a heartfelt tribute, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has mourned the passing of Agnes Muthoni Kinyua, also known as Major Gachefu, a revered freedom fighter and prominent member of the Kenya Land and Freedom Army (KLFA), who fought in the Mau Mau resistance against British colonial rule.In a statement issued earlier today, Gachagua expressed his deep sorrow at the death of Major Gachefu, the wife of the late General Bahati and a key figure in the struggle for Kenya’s independence. He described her as a symbol of bravery, courage, and unwavering commitment to the cause of freedom.”With great sadness, I have received the news of the passing of Agnes Muthoni Kinyua, also known as Major Gachefu, from the family of General Bahati. She was a true patriot and a heroine of our liberation struggle,” said Gachagua. “As a member of the Heka Heka Battalion under the command of the legendary Field Marshal Dedan Kimathi, Major Gachefu fought fiercely against the British colonial forces in the Aberdare forest. Her commitment to the cause of freedom was unparalleled, and her courage in battle will be forever etched in the history of our nation.”Major Gachefu’s legacy, according to Gachagua, goes beyond her military prowess. She was known for her resolute leadership and her no-nonsense approach to dealing with those who betrayed the movement.”Major Gachefu will also be remembered for her fearlessness in confronting traitors and collaborators who sought to undermine the Mau Mau struggle.
