   By Wasike Elvis A storm of distress has engulfed the small community of Kambi Nyasi as 24 families face imminent eviction from the land they have called home for over two decades. The Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK), which owns the 13-acre parcel of land, plans to use it for a school project intended to benefit less fortunate children. However, this decision has left the current residents—comprising orphans, elderly individuals, and struggling families—grappling with an uncertain future.
Joseph Lolepio, a community member, voiced the collective anguish. “This land has housed three generations. Instead of settling us or building rental homes for our survival, they’re asking us to leave. If the church, which we view as a refuge, can evict people, where are we supposed to go? This is inhumane.”
A Call for Intervention
The plight of the residents has drawn attention to the role of the church in fostering compassion. Community members have called upon Anglican Bishop Jackson Ole Sapit to intervene and allocate three acres of the land to resettle the affected families before any construction begins.
“We are not against the school project,” said Sylvia Wamboi, who was born and raised in Kambi Nyasi. “We are simply asking for a humane solution. The church should help us find an alternative instead of forcing us into destitution.”
Halima Gonaya, a resident since 1974 and a single mother, expressed her desperation. “I have lived here my whole life. My children and I have nowhere else to go. The church should be a place of help, not displacement.”
Appeals to Leaders
As eviction looms, residents have turned to national leaders, including President William Ruto, for support. Michael Karanja, another resident, urged the government to step in. “Mr. President, we need your intervention. We are poor, and this is our home. Please hear our prayers and stop this injustice.”
Richard Agula echoed these sentiments, appealing to the church leadership. “Our only hope lies in the church. Please show us compassion and help us find a place to stay.”
A Conflict of Values
The situation highlights a moral dilemma. While the church’s mission to provide education for the less fortunate is commendable, the eviction of vulnerable residents has raised questions about its role in society. Critics argue that the church should embody the teachings of Christ by offering shelter and support to the needy.
As the debate intensifies, the residents of Kambi Nyasi remain steadfast in their plea for mercy and justice. With time running out, they hope their cries will reach sympathetic ears and lead to a resolution that upholds their dignity and rights.  Read More

The demolition, which occurred on December 19, 2024, was carried out by a group of individuals reportedly accompanied by 50 armed police officers, other personnel in full tactical gear, and men armed with crude weapons. The incident has sparked outrage and calls for government intervention.According to church officials, the attackers arrived in a lorry, fenced off the 2.5-acre parcel of land, and began pulling down the structures, including the church sanctuary, school, and offices. Caretakers on the property were harassed, evicted, and left helpless as the attackers claimed to have an eviction order. However, the church maintains that the order was meant for a different property, casting doubt on the legality of the actions.”An Illegal and Heinous Act,” Says Bishop SimwaBishop Peter Simwa, a respected church leader in Eldoret, strongly condemned the incident. He described the demolition as an affront to the rule of law and a violation of the church’s rights. “We stand united as church leaders in Eldoret to denounce this heinous act. Logos Revival Ministries has been on this land for 23 years and has all the legal documentation to prove ownership, including sales agreements, change of user approvals, and updated land rates. The government must act to protect us,” he said.The Bishop emphasized the importance of the church to the community, highlighting its contributions to spiritual growth, education, and social welfare. He urged relevant government agencies to intervene swiftly and investigate the incident.Bishop Watindi Laments Loss of Decades-Long DevelopmentBishop Aggrey Watindi, the head of Logos Revival Ministries, expressed his devastation over the loss of property and developments that had taken years to build. He revealed that the church had invested KSh 7 million in constructing a permanent sanctuary and had established Princedom School to cater to disadvantaged children in the community.“This property has been a beacon of hope for many in the community. We have developed it from scratch, and it has served as a place of worship, learning, and support for vulnerable groups. The demolition occurred despite ongoing court cases over the land, and the process has blatantly disregarded the law,” Bishop Watindi stated.He called on President William Ruto to personally intervene and ensure justice is served. He also expressed concern for the displaced schoolchildren, many of whom rely on Princedom School for education and care. Impact on Students and the CommunityThe timing of the demolition has caused significant disruption, as students were preparing to resume classes on Monday. Princedom School, which operates on the same property, provides education and support to disadvantaged children, many of whom now face uncertainty.Rev. Isaac Mutai, overseer of Deliverance Church in Eldoret, described the incident as “a tragedy of immense proportions.” He criticized the lack of due process and called on the Ministry of Lands and the National Land Commission to investigate claims of double allocation of the land. “We condemn the demolition in the strongest terms. It is unacceptable for such an act to take place, especially as children are about to return to school. The government must protect legitimate landowners and ensure justice is served,” he said.Call for Government ActionChurch leaders have collectively called on the government to take immediate action to address the matter. They urged relevant agencies, including the Ministry of Lands and law enforcement, to investigate the incident, halt any further destruction, and hold those responsible accountable. They also emphasized the need for transparency and fairness in resolving land disputes to prevent similar occurrences in the future.Bishop Simwa stressed the importance of protecting institutions that contribute to community development. “The church has been a pillar of hope and progress in this community. It is deeply disheartening to see such an important establishment torn down without regard for the law or the people it serves,” he said.A Legacy Under ThreatFor over two decades, Logos Revival Ministries has been a cornerstone of the Eldoret community, offering spiritual guidance, education, and social support.    By Mercy Jeptoo The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested nine police officers in connection with bribery during an ongoing crackdown on corruption, particularly targeting road users. The officers were apprehended between December 25 and December 31, as EACC detectives conducted operations across major highways during the festive season.EACC spokesperson Erick Ngombi confirmed the arrests, highlighting that the officers had been demanding bribes from motorists, a practice the commission has been working tirelessly to curb. The arrested officers were ambushed in various counties, including Kajiado, Nakuru, and Kisii.According to Ngombi, two officers, Police Constable (PC) Muendi Okech and Corporal James Gitonga, were caught along the Nairobi-Namanga road. Meanwhile, PC Dae Ronald Wakachanga and Corporal Mustafa Babuye were arrested on the Kisii-Rongo road. The remaining five officers—Sergeant Susan Potishon, PC Duncan Bonn, Corporal Joshua Kipkurui, PC Ruth Ngugi, and PC Vincent Otieno—were apprehended at Salgaa in Nakuru and along the Nairobi-Nakuru-Eldoret highway.The commission also reported the discovery of hidden money believed to have been concealed by Corporal Simon Karanja on December 26. The money was recovered in a bush near Gathenge, along the Makutano-Embu highway.EACC has emphasized that the officers’ cases have been processed, with legal action to follow. Nine police officers have been arrested by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) for allegedly soliciting bribes from road users, primarily motorists, in a series of operations conducted over the festive season.
The arrests, which took place between December 25 and December 31, occurred across multiple counties including Kajiado, Nakuru, and Kisii. The officers were apprehended at various locations along key highways, as the EACC intensifies its crackdown on corruption.
Among those arrested were Police Constables (PC) Muendi Okech and James Gitonga, who were caught on the Nairobi-Namanga road. Additionally, PC Ronald Wakachanga and Corporal Mustafa Babuye were arrested along the Kisii-Rongo road.
The other five officers, including Sergeant Susan Potishon, PC Dancun Bonn, Corporal Joshua Kipkurui, PC Ruth Ngugi, and PC Vincent Otieno, were nabbed at Salgaa in Nakuru, as well as along the Nairobi-Nakuru-Eldoret highway.
EACC spokesperson Erick Ngombi confirmed the arrests and stated that investigations are ongoing. “The officers were caught demanding bribes from unsuspecting motorists, an act that goes against the ethical standards of the police force,” he said.
In addition to the arrests, the EACC also uncovered cash hidden in a bush in the Gathenge area along the Makutano-Embu highway. The money, believed to have been concealed by Corporal Simon Karanja, was discovered on December 26.
The EACC has vowed to continue its operations to root out corruption within the police service, especially during peak travel periods such as the holiday season.  Read More
